This Alternator\/Generator engine; is basically an Early Shovel engine on the right side; with all generator and timer drive gears. Engines come with a special reverse ignition timer drive gear so they can be used with late; 70-99 style; ignition systems since these drive in the opposite direction. With its late Shovel left side crankcase the more modern and dependable 70-84 style alternator charging system can be used. If a generator is not used it is an excellent place to install a spin-on oil filter. Another advantage; all 70-up 4-speed; 5 or even 6-speed transmissions; can be run.
